W2W4TRAINERS

POSITIVELY EMPOWERING!

E-collar Technique for Dog Trainers and Applications for Our Soccer-Mom Clients

Hosted by Kathy Rasmussen at
Canine Sports

in Norman, Oklahoma

July 28 – 31, 2008

WHO SHOULD ATTEND THIS COURSE?

  • Trainers who wish to expand upon your skills, tools, and professional opportunities, by increasing your capacity to effectively address the client needs of women who are owned by the dogs they love.

  • Trainers who wish to talk with women in women’s terms, considering and addressing differing perceptions of the dogs they share their lives with.

  • Trainers who wish to explore ways to better communicate through metaphor created by our work with dogs.

  • Trainers who wish to communicate the professional language of behavioral science easily and simply, as it relates to women and their dogs.

  • Trainers who desire to communicate the language of “dog” to women who most often are put in positions of training their family dogs; taking these clients from Soccer Mom to Pack Mom.

  • Trainers who wish to learn to use technologically advanced electronic remote collars (ecollars) – and to do so effectively and without confrontation, in a manner your clients can feel comfortable with.

We consider you to be a trainer if you work with dogs – either your own dogs and/or the family dogs that live with your clients.

The primary focus of this workshop is effective and humane use of the ecollar. This workshop places a strong secondary focus on women – either trainers who are women and/or the women who are your clients.

W2W is a WORKing COURSE

For an optimal learning experience, bring an untrained dog to work with. Students may be authorized to bring 2 dogs. We hope each student will be able to handle multiple dogs. Kris Butler’s unique brand of teaching allows for presentation and lots of hand-on practice, observation, and discussion. E-collars will be provided for use at the workshop and available for purchase if desired.

Canine Sports Academy’s 50x100 ft. work area has padded flooring and allows plenty of room to move about safely in an air conditioned indoor environment. The seminar room offers a classroom environment with AV equipment The Academy is located on 5 acres, providing grassy relief areas for our canine participants.

ABOUT YOUR INSTRUCTOR

Kris Butler’s professional vision is on working with dogs to improve the quality of peoples’ lives. This, she believes, includes the clients for whom she trains dogs.

She has been training dogs at her American Dog Obedience Center in Norman, OK for more than twenty years. Her dog training programs focus primarily on family companionship but she has enjoyed success in competitive venues as well, agility being her most recent pursuit. She has trained thousands of dogs – one at a time – through her unique boarding school program.

Kris is a nationally recognized instructor of people. From 2006 – 2008 she served as an adjunct faculty member at University of Denver’s Graduate School of Social Work, developing and instructing DU’s online Animals and Human Health professional development program. She has developed and delivered seminars for therapists and special education teachers from throughout the United States which focus on goal directed animal-assisted programs. She has provided professional consulting, evaluator training, and site assessment services for Delta Society in Hawaii, Wyoming, Texas, Boston, New York, Washington, Ohio, Arkansas, and Oklahoma.

Kris is the author Therapy Dogs Today: Their Gifts, Our Obligation, one of the best selling books ever on that topic. She is the producer of the DVD/book combination Therapy Dogs: Compassionate Modalities, which continues to be highly successful. She has authored chapters for The Golden Bridge, A Guide to Assistance Dogs by Patty Dobbs Gross and Animal-Assisted Therapy, Theoretical Foundations and Guidelines for Practice, second edition, edited by Aubrey Fine.
